City of Zrenjanin
Municipalities of Subotica, Zitiste, Novi Becej and Nova Crnja
Local economic development has its spatial/geographical dimension. In every local community there is unused land, real estate and infrastructure resources are generally which are poorly managed and controlled. As in many municipalities in Serbia, this problem is strongly recognized in the City of Zrenjanin and municipalities of Novi Becej, Nova Crnja and Zitiste in Central Banat. It also affects daily operation of communal enterprises and public enterprises at the republic level which are source of data to various local institutions. Very often the decisions about municipal development, land use planning, provision of infrastructure, facility management, construction and other development areas are based on simple paper maps that are outdated and derived from incomplete data. Information system, as on of the essential pre-requisites of successful spatial development had not been, so far, adequately developed. One of the major weaknesses is insufficient coordination of various services/departments, when it comes to methodology, content of work as well as their technical equipment and compatibility. Banat municipalities which are involved in this project, identified the need for an effective quality information system in their separate local strategies and initially. Each municipality initially expressed the idea of introducing GIS.
To contribute to increase of capacities of the municipalities of Central Banat district to improve services delivery and stimulate local development in line with their development priorities.
