Summary of the project

The project wants to introduce the new method of waste management- waste separation which is applied in the developed countries of the Europe. This method would allow the separated waste to be resold as a secondary material, earning the additional profits and at the same time it would ensure that the solid waste is not further accumulated in the municipality as there is no local or central regional dump available.

By introducing and applying new methods of waste separation the number of infectious diseases and their spreading caused by living in the immediate proximity to wild dumps will be significantly reduced which will in turn positively affect the living standard of the citizens by providing cleaner and safer environment for this tourism oriented municipality

Programme/Project objectives

The overall objective of the project aims to contribute towards the improved living standard of the citizens of the municipality through introduction of the new methods of waste separation and application of the European practices in the solid waste management

The importance of this project has to main aspects: improved living standard and the protection of the environment and natural resources. The project will generate necessary reforms through exchange of knowledge and experience with the EU municipality partner, necessary education of citizens and adoption of EU practices in the waste management.

The long term effect of this project will result in cleaner and safer environment and improved living standard  which will benefit both citizens of the municipality and contribute to the protection of environment demonstrating the will and determination to respectfully move forward towards European Union.

Specific objectives

Specific Objectives: 1.) Increased level of awareness of environmental pollution and importance of environmental protection through continuous and intensive education of citizens and promotional campaigns;2.)Reduction/removal of wild dumps and waste scattering through introduction of appropriate garbage bins/litter separators and through strict application of waste management and environmental protection laws;3.)Reduction of overhead expenses in the municipal budget related to ineffective solid waste management;4.) Improved quality( modernization) of public communal services reached through transfer of knowledge and technical training of the communal service employees in the EU partner municipality;5.)Earning additional income from recycling and reselling of the secondary raw material;6.)Decline in the number of infectious diseases and their spreading caused by living in the immediate proximity to wild dumps through continuous education, provision of appropriate garbage bins and regular health check-ups with the special emphasis on the Rom minority group
