Municipality of Nova Varos
Result 1: Enhanced Capacities of LED staff of Nova Varos, Priboj and Prijepolje
Currently, LED staff lack the hands-on knowledge and skills as well as deeper insight of business development to assist the existing entrepreneurs as well as potential new ones. It is vital to support this core staff in each Municipality to enable them to fulfill one of principle functions of a local economic development office, which is to maintain close contact with, and to provide direct support to the local business community.
Result 2: LED Offices in the partner municipalities are better prepared to support business development
After trainings are finished and equipment is properly installed, the LED-s are expected to be start operations in an improved and proper approach. Under the periodic guidance of the project experts from Slovenia as well from their own municipalities, staff will begin to fulfill tasks, duties and responsibilities that were subject of the training they followed.
Result 3: Strengthened partnership between NV/PP/PB and the Municipality of Skocjan (Slovenia)
The involvement of the partners from the Municipality of Skocjan is instrumental for the successful execution of this project. Skocjan, a thriving European municipality in its own right, has a proven track record of successfully supporting a health business climate through direct and active involvement of its local economic development unit Experts from this municipality will pay regular visits to the project area to assist, advice and guide various parts of the project trajectory.
The Overall Objective of this project is “To contribute to the economic development of the areas of the Municipalities of Nova Varos, Priboj and Prijepolje”.
Economic development is a sine qua non for progress in life, and the need for increasing living standards. It is important for the area as much as it is for the state to support and ensure sustainable economies as local as possible.
The Specific Objective of this project is “To support the improvement of the Business Climate in the project area”.
The business climate was chosen as the main area for focus to improve economic conditions. In a thriving economy, small and medium enterprises are the cornerstone for job creation and sustainable development. The municipalities are facing huge unemployment figures (up to 30%), while the vast part of the employed people are working for local and national governmental institutions (e.g. municipality). These positions are financed from public funds, which is costing money rather than generate it. There is a well-recognised need to open up possibilities for businesses to thrive, as a main source of generating employment, income and investment, and with that, facilitate economic progress, especially when local authorities assume a role of support and catalyst.
