Summary of the project

The project includes activities which should result in getting a clear picture of the quality of water in the river and to improve the protection and management of natural resources in the three municipalities. The basic activity of the project is the creation and implementation of the Plan of Integrated River Basin Management Pek, who will be a strategic instrument for cooperation between the municipalities on the protection of natural resources, located in the Danube River Pek and more broadly the means for sustainable development of river.

Making integrated river basin management plan for the River Pek is essential if the three municipalities sharing the Pek River (Veliko Gradište, Kučevo and Majdanpek) want long term protection and sustainable use of natural resources in the river basin. Using the integrated approach, each municipality would solve its own water related problems, recognized as priorities, taking care at the same time about needs and problems of the municipalities located downstream, since the rivers do not recognize any administrative borders, and at the same time foster socio economic development of the area.

Programme/Project objectives

  • To assess current environmental status of the municipalities Veliko Gradište, Kučevo and Majdanpek, that share the Pek River basin by identifying and analyzing all pressures and impacts coming from different sources of pollution and affecting the water resources.
  • To build capacities of all key players in the target municipalities for drafting, implementing and revising the river basin management plan as a tool for cooperation on long term and strategic planning on the protection of natural resources.
