Summary of the project

Zemun Belgrade city municipality on the right bank of the Danube.

The project”Zemun on Danube” is based on the following needs and challenges:

  • Segmentation of tourism offer in Zemun, lack of networking and systematic efforts
  • Absence of tourism information centre (TIC)
  • Absence of modern approach to institutional development of tourism
  • Vicinity of the centre of Belgrade and potential of supplementary tourism offer

Tourism in Zemun lacks coordination and joining of efforts.

All tourism providers are left to individual initiative in marketing, development of their services and other segments of their operations. In the past there has not been a systematic approach to tourism development.

Despite its potentials for development of tourism Zemun has not established TIC (tourism information centre), where information related to all aspects of tourism offer would be available at one spot. This practically means that tourists coming to Zemun cannot find any information related to tourism and they feel somewhat lost. A modern TIC, with trained staff and all promotional materials available is absolute necessity.

The implementation of project will improve quality of tourism offer of Zemun and make the town more ‘’lively’’. Increased number of cultural events, better overall quality will positively influence both tourists and the local population.

Programme/Project objectives

  • Development of tourism offer in Zemun, increased number of tourist visits and new employment in the sector of tourism. The project will have positive impact on development of tourism offer in Zemun. It will primarily work on re-organization and re-focusing of institutional support to tourism. Being in close vicinity to the centre of Belgrade Zemun could play an important role in the development of tourism of the capital of Serbia. Though segmented efforts have taken place in the past, Zemun is far from maximizing its potentials in regards to number of tourist visits, average amount and time spent. Improvements in the tourism sector should increase employment in the sector and have overall positive impact on quality of life of citizens of Zemun.

Specific objectives

  • Analysis of good practice examples from EU and transfer of experience. The first objective of the project is identification and analysis of good practice example from comparable city in the EU. The project aims at reviewing all elements of good practice example and adapting them to the specific context of Zemun and Serbia.
  • Analysis, training and networking of tourism providers in Zemun. In order to increase impact of the project and provide necessary sustainability the project partners will work on networking and training of tourism providers in Zemun.
  • Setting-up of tourism information centre in Zemun. Zemun as one of the main points in development of tourism of the Serbian capital still does not have tourist information centre (TIC), where all relevant information would be available at one point.
  • Development and promotion of tourism product ’’Zemun on Danube’’. The project partners will connect elements of tourism, considered as comparative advantage, into a new tourism product. The product will be based on culture offer, sport related to Danube river and culinary offer of Zemun.
