Summary of the project

Support sustainable employment and access to services for Roma population and other vulnerable persons engaged in informal waste collection. It aims at establishing a system of formal recycling to ensure legitimate employment and increase access to health, education and social services.

One of the key achievements of the Project was self-employment of 51 Roma beneficiaries who have started own or partnership businesses with self-employment grants for equipment necessary for business.

Handing over Zvezdara SWIFT Recycling Centre (Centre) inventory and legal transfer of its ownership to the City of Belgrade contributed to the establishment of a system of formal recycling which ensures legitimate employment and provides a platform to increase access to health, education and social services for the vulnerable populations and their communities engaged in the recycling activities. In this respect, the status of the Centre is legally formalised within the system of the City Public Utility Company (PUC), which provides institutional sustainability of the Centre
